BLUEBONNETS

It's bluebonnet time in Texas! A time where moms from all over the state drive out to the hill country and subject their children to bugs, burs and other dangers, all in the name of tradition!

So after school today we drove out to my parents' ranch, about an hour and 20 minutes west of town. My dad has a field that was absolutely covered in bluebonnets!

Claire loved the beauty of our state flower, and the sea of blue that was created by thousands of flowers growing together.

Matthew loved the satisfying rip as he tore handfuls of the flowers out of the ground. I urged him to stop, but he couldn't help himself. (I know my fellow Texans are cringing here! Rest easy, my friends. Picking bluebonnets is NOT illegal; that's an urban legend! Also, bluebonnets propagate by reseeding, and since he discarded the plants as soon as he uprooted them, I doubt he did any harm to next year's growth. Still, it feels like bad karma or something, doesn't it?!)

And finally, little Stella liked to hold small bouquets of bluebonnets and pose for my camera!! She's getting really good at saying, "Cheeeeese!"
