We drove the 10 hours in two days. The kids were amazing in the car! On the way, we stopped in Mobile to see the Battleship Alabama. It was lots of fun; the kids climbed all over the ship, then explored a retired submarine, and walked around some old fighter jets and bombers.
When we finally got to the beach house, we were ready for some sand and surf! We were on the beach every day- sometimes all day- only coming in for meals and rests. The kids enjoyed finding crabs, mostly hermits but we even found a blue crab! Claire played a little Frisbee, Matthew snorkeled some, and Stella played in an inflatable pool that we set up near the shore and filled with ocean water. I love our beach house vacations.

One day we left our bathing suits behind for a little, and went into town. We played at an amusement park with bumper boats, go carts, and an arcade. Then we found a shop that did Henna tatoos. After that fun morning, it was back to the beach house for some more sand and surf!

Terrible traffic on the way out of Gulf Shores set us way behind on our drive home. So we decided not to drive it all in one day, but to stay the night in New Orleans. There we rode the street cars and went to the French Market. The next morning we ate beignets at Cafe DuMonde and stopped to play at a park before driving the rest of the way home.

A week after our road trip began we were home at last, and boy were we tired from all that sun!! But we can't wait for our next beach house vacation!
